The Pathways to Write Catch-Up Units are designed to address the gaps in learning from the previous year group's skills. The theme of the units is 'Keep Believing' with a range of texts celebrating the achievements of inspirational people in response to Black Lives Matter. Each unit comprises 15 sessions and is designed to be delivered over 3 to 4 weeks. The focus of each unit is the recap of basic key skills from previous learning with the opportunity to apply these skills across a range of short writing tasks. Each unit provides many opportunities for writing, including a final extended writing task. There are 6 individual units based around 3 engaging texts:. Year 1 and Year 2 - Look Up! By Nathan Bryon. Year 3 and Year 4 - Counting on Katherine by Helaine Becker. Year 5 and Year 6 - Of Thee I Sing by Barack Obama. Additional texts: Young, Gifted and Black by Jamia Wilson - Y5 & Y6 Wilma Unlimited by Kathleen Krull - Y1. Texts sold separately - please note that texts may vary based on publishing updates. Similar outcomes and tasks are provided in the Y3 and Y4 units and Y5 and Y6 units with some adaptions of skills and modelled writing to suit the priority of the different year groups.
